Speech title: Searching for the Low Heat Duty of Regeneration for Blended Amines in a Packed–bed Stripper

Abstract: This study uses three kinds of blended amine solution as absorbent (MEA+AMP, MEA+TEA, MEA+DETA), which are 30wt% respectively. When the rich loading solutions are prepared, the regeneration of solvents are tested in the stripper. The parameters are the concentration of blended amine (4-6 M), the liquid-flow rate (0.2-0.6 L/min), reboiler temperature (100-120℃) and rich loading (0.2-0.4 mol/mol). According to Taguchi method, there are 4 variables each having 3 levels, giving the orthogonal array as L9(34). Due to this, the number of experiments is reduced to 9. The range of the stripping efficiency (E) is 25.0–63.4%, the range of CO2 stripping rate (mco2) is 9.47-38.02 g/min, the range of heat duty (Q) is 2.23-7.80 GJ/t and the range of steam generation rate (ms) is 27-72 g/min. It is found that the obtained Q values are 2-4GJ/t for most runs. Using 5 GJ/t as base line, the heat duty is reduced by over 40%. From the Taguchi analysis, the optimum condition and parameter importance are discovered and the results show that the liquid-flow rate is the most important factor, followed by the concentration of blended amine. In addition, the stripping factor and Q both showed that the MEA+AMP blended amine has excellent performance among them.
