Keynote speech title: Lactobacillus Pentosus Cultivation and Lactic Acid Production
Abstract: Lactobacillus pentosus can utilize both five and six carbon sugars, and is a probiotic bacterial having many health benefits. The main industrial product by Lactobacillus pentosus is lactic acid, which has wide applications in many fields including nutraceutical, food, and biomaterial. Generated from lactic acid monomers, polylactic acid (PLA) is an excellent alternative to petroleum based plastics as it is biodegradable and renewable. Most of the industrial lactic acid production is obtained from microbial fermentation, because an optically pure product can be obtained and renewable resources can be fed as substrates during fermentative production. However, the search for the most favorable fermentation conditions is still desired for the successful commercial development of cost competitive processes. Optimization of Lactobacillus pentosus cultivation and lactic acid production were investigated in this study. In batch fermentation of pH 6.0, the optimal temperature for Lactobacillus pentosus growth is 30 ℃ and the optimal temperature for lactic acid production from glucose is 35 ℃ (agitation speed at 150 rpm, and air flow rate at 25 mL/min).

Keynote speech title: On Some Controversies on Future Sources of the Electric Energy
Abstract: The Key Note for this Conference is prepared by the author of the Currents’ Physical Components (CPC) -based power theory of electrical systems. This theory explains all physical phenomena that affect the transfer of electric energy in power systems. The study on this theory development has provided an observation point on the adjacent research area – on the future sources of the electric energy as well on the future power systems. More...

Keynote speech title: High-Performance Oxides-Based Thermoelectric Ceramics for Energy Conversion
Abstract: Thermoelectric materials have attracted much more attention due to their wide applications. In comparison with thermoelectric alloys, oxide semiconductors, which are thermally and chemically stable in air at high temperature, are regarded as the candidates for high-temperature thermoelectric applications. We prepared nanostructured p-type BiCuSeO and n-type In2O3-based ceramics by Spark plasma sintering. More...

Prof. Zhishi Wang

Keynote speech title: Strategic Innovation for Urban Energy Saving and Emission Reduction of Macau
Abstract: Two critical issues are involved in the low carbon economy or the green energy economy, i.e., bio-wastes or bio-residues recycling and reuse for energy supply aspect and smart building and smart city transportation for energy demand aspect, which needs a strategic innovation for energy saving and emission reduction of a city.
In this oral presentation, the Macau case study is reviewed and analyzed, involving 1) transition of energy resources policy of Macau SAR from incentive policy into green financing strategy for the urban energy saving and emission reduction; 2) development of bio-fuel industry with municipal solid waste recycling and reuse in Macau; 3) public survey of willing-to-pay of Macau citizen with the contingent valuation method (CVM) for the new strategic innovation for urban solid waste recy-cling program that is being promoted by Macau SAR government.
